Supervisor Training Seminar

Date: September 8, 2017 Time: 8:30 AM - 11:00 AM
Sorry, public registration for this event has been closed.

Running a business is more than dollars and cents; there’s a legal element that many human resource professionals, supervisors and managers deal with daily. To that end, the Blount Partnership, along with the law firms of Wimberly Lawson and Lewis Thomason, is hosting a three-part supervisors training – human resource/legal seminar on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017 from 8:30-11 a.m. at the Blount Partnership office located at 201 S. Washington St., Maryville, Tenn.
Topics to be covered include the avoiding liability from hostile work environment claims presented by Lynne Peterson of Lewis Thomason. Kurt Greene of Arrow G Consulting offers approaches, techniques and tips for managing conflicts between managers and employees. Finally, Howard Jackson of Wimberly Lawson Wright Daves & Jones will discuss workplace fairness and avoiding discrimination claims.
The cost is $50 per person for non-Chamber members and $25 per person for Chamber members. Register by phone at 865.983.2241. If a chamber member sends two more employees, registration is $20 per employee.
"These short seminars offer great insight for managers and supervisors who can then implement these tips back into their workplace," said Tammi Ford, Blount Partnership vice president. "Each of these topics cover issues all businesses are facing today."
Topic Synopsis
Avoiding Liability for Hostile Work Environment Claims: Claims of a hostile work environment and of sexual harassment raise the specter of upheaval in the workplace and nightmare litigation with huge jury verdicts, but the legal battles of the past have provided employers with lessons and tools to avoid liability for the actions of bad employees.  Learn what those tools are and how to use them effectively.
Feedback That Works: Nine of out 10 conversations between managers and employees miss the mark, according to leadership author Judith Glaser.  Yet these days, it’s hard to know what you can even say and how to say it—leading many managers to feel like they have to walk on egg shells when it comes to feedback. This interactive session will provide some simple approaches, techniques, and tips that will drastically improve your feedback conversations, both positive and otherwise.
Workplace Fairness and Avoiding Discrimination Claims: Employers have no legal obligation to be “fair.”  But what happens if employees believe they are being treated badly, arbitrarily?  It isn’t pretty.  Learn about the pitfalls, and ways to communicate that promote a healthy and lawsuit-free workplace.
